I still haven’t met anybody in person who actually completed the full 63 day Insanity workout programme. Not many, in my experience! Quite a few people I know through work have had a go at the Insanity workout, but have given up either through injury – mainly knees or ankles – or just found it too severe or too much of a commitment. Instead of working out at maximum intensity for a short period of time and then easing back for a long rest before hitting another quick high intensity peak, it exercises you at maximum intensity for three to five minutes, with a 30 second rest period, then launches you straight back into prolonged high intensity again and again. It uses the maximum interval training method, which flips interval training on its head. If you’re not aware of the Insanity workout, then it’s an at-home ten DVD cardio workout programme from Beachbody that requires you to work out six days a week for around 40 minutes to an hour or so each session. This is an ongoing record of my personal fitness journey, will I make it through to the end? What Is It? I never paid much attention, it looked a bit glossy. Eating at maintenance for a bit resulted in my being able to start losing again without dropping below 1200 calories.So, I’ve half-seen this Insanity Workout being advertised on shopping channels for a while now, Shaun T shouting for his crew to ‘dig deeper’ and lots of arduous looking exercises taking place to camera, with maximum interval training and nicely shot professional video being the name of the game. I lost my first 40 pounds pretty quickly, so I wasn’t too surprised to hit a plateau at this point. I think my body needed to spend some time at this weight before dropping again. The past week or so I’ve been eating an average of 1500 calories per day, and lost 5 pounds. At this point I expected to maintain my weight, and I did through the rest of month 1 and into month 2. I hadn’t lost any weight, which was unusual for me but looking back on it I think it was probably a result of changing up my exercise routine.Īfter that, I actually bumped my calories up and started eating 1600-2000 calories per day. After the first two weeks or so of eating at a deficit, I was feeling fairly burned out and realized that the intensity of the workouts I was doing probably called for more fuel for my body. That’s a good call out and something I should have mentioned in my post - I did not change my diet immediately when starting insanity, so I generally ate anywhere from 1200-1600 calories per day depending on whether I was working out or not. Kudos to all of us that keep on digging deeper!! Thinking of going for either Asylum or max 30. With only a few weeks of Insanity left and the possibility of gyms reopening somewhat soon, I'm starting to consider that perhaps my body needs more training like this a bit longer before I switch back to weight lifting. I'm trying to keep my mindset on prioritizing strength & performance, but I have to admit that I love seeing the number on the scale go down after a few months of maintenance. This morning, after completing max interval plyo (month 2 week 8 day 2) I was 164.9. I've been weighing myself every couple of days. I can actually engage my core during the workouts, and I swear I'm starting to see some definition there. I've learned to land softly on jumps (actually LOVE diamond jumps by the way). I can do certain exercises that I could not do with speed at all when they were first introduced (I'm looking at you, switch kicks & V/side push ups). I keep reminding myself that I have, however, been feeling stronger and more agile every single workout. This has been a little bit disappointing after experiencing steady weight loss for months before now. Up until this point, I have been maintaining my weight between 168-170 and not really seeing scale results. I'm F 5'2 so my initial goal weight is about 140. We decided to do Insanity to stay active at home and try to keep losing weight. Over a 6 month period going to the gym regularly, I lost 40 lbs (started at 210, ended at about 170). We both used to regularly lift weights in the gym, about 4 days per week, but have had to stop when our gym closed during the pandemic. This is my first time ever doing Insanity, but my boyfriend's second (it's been a while).
